Routine

I saw my Sitemeter jumping after I posted that picture.

KAYPOH!

Let's start with something boring - how my daily routine was for the last three months in the US of A. It's very long, read it only when you're very very bored.

I get up at 6 in the morning, shower (showering is a must however cold morning showers are!), walk to work. Walking to work takes about 20+ minutes, I have to walk down this hill and continue walking for another 400 metres before I reach my workplace.

I report to the landscaping department and wait for my manager to head the morning brief, which is usually the same ol' thing and lasts around 5-10 minutes. I then walk to my garage to get a decent hose cart and push it to my area - the Wiggles World. When I say decent, I mean one with no leaks. Apparently the rubber hose and the connection to the cart always leaks, so if I don't pick carefully, I'd have to walk back to the garage again to get a new hose cart.

I set the World Record once, I took my cart, walked to Wiggles World (which is ard the distance from Taka to Far East, if you dunno how far that is, screw you) and then I realised it was leaking so badly I flooded the entire walkway. I walked back to the garage, took another hose cart without checking, walked back to Wiggles World, realised it was still faulty, went back to garage... *repeats five times*

I water the flowers at Wiggles World. Very pretty, but they wither easily. I stop work at half past nine in the morning, walked back to the garage, take my belongings which include my dirty uniform, bring them (the uniforms) to HR department to get a brand new set. Afterwhich I take my own sweet time to report to ESO (Employee Services Office) and punch in for Landscaping. My manager will be there to sign my timeslip for me, and then I punch it again (stupid people never fail to amaze me) for Foods Service.

I got caught for red highlights on my hair once. That's gg to be reserved for another day.

I walk to the employee canteen called the Backstage Cafe, say hello to my supervisor, wear the ugly cap, put on my gloves and start work. Basically I handle all the burgers there, and there are four types - Chicken, cheese, hotdogs and hamburgers. The chicken burgers and hotdogs are a bit more tedious to prepare, because I have to steam them first at the neighbouring cafe (Apparently I believe the park is too "poor" to get a steamer for Backstage), and grill them for half a minute before wrapping them up in their respective buns. Before that, I also have to temp them ie take the temperature to ensure they're cooked.

Then afterwhich I start grilling beef patties, if the whole grill is not used by my supervisor, I can put like 20 pieces on it max, and I'd make all of them cheeseburgers. People there love cheeseburgers more than hamburgers, but the only difference is that the cheeseburger has a piece of cheese added to it.

Chicken burgers (chicken patty with buns), hot dogs (hot dogs with hot dot rolls), cheeseburgers (cheese + beef + hamburger roll), and hamburgers (beef + hamburger roll) all cost a dollar each. Apparently they sell these burgers to guests outside for erm... USD7.99 with french fries?

After I finish making Cheeseburgers, I make like mebbe 10 hamburgers, and then by the time I finish wrapping the hamburgers up, I'd need to make another 20 cheeseburgers. -_-

If at this point you think people there have nothing else to eat, well that's not very true. We have our special menu which changes almost every other day. It ranges from cold subs to jambalaya to chicken fingers to mozzarella sticks. People usually end up buying the burger or the salads from the salad bar when the special looks bad.

My peak period starts at half past 12 and ends around 2 in the afternoon. During the first month I was there, I was ALONE in the kitchen making burgers. I think the total number of burgers I make has already surpassed the 5000 mark.

Peak period gets very frustrating especially when I am alone because there I am doing up Cheeseburgers, the next thing I know, they've run out of Chicken burgers. I have to multitask so much that I acquire Superman skills and become Superman of Backstage.

All employees must have their lunch before 2, so I usually go for mine at around half past 1. I usually make my own lunch. A typical kinda lunch I make is something along the lines of a triple cheeseburger. Haha, go figure. And the best thing is most of the time I get them for free. Add in one bottle of choc milk and one brownie or cookie. Wah no wonder I am so fat now!

The lunch break is the only thing I look forward to in the morning. When two or more girls start to eat on the same table with me, I'd start hearing the latest gossips about people in the themepark. The dining area is THE BEST PLACE to talk about/spread/share/listen to gossips, NOWHERE ELSE. That's why I like working back there.

After lunch, the pace is much much slower, this is when I usually start talking cock with my supervisor. Or if she's not around, I'd just go for a self-declared 2nd, 3rd and 4th break whenever I want to. :D

The park closes at 7 during weekdays, 8 on Fridays and Sundays and 9 on Saturdays. Backstage closes an hour before the themepark closes. When it is time to close, I start the ball rolling by scraping the grill myself, ordering the others to sweep/mop the floor of the dining area + area outside. The grill is as black as black can be and I have to scrap it everyday during closing.

After that, I usually end up doing the dishes, my colleague Maggie closes the salad bar and puts the salad into the cooler. I like doing dishes, because it is so fun. Sometimes I end up scalding my hands because the water gets really hot on certain days. When they're done with the mopping, I get the mop bucket and mop the kitchen myself.

I end the day with a free soda from the soda machine before I lock it. Oh wait, make that free sodas throughout the day. Yup, I get free sodas every single day until I am sick and tired of the tastes. The French Vanilla tastes good too, and guess what, it's also free!

At the end of the day, either I wait for Ian to finish work (themepark closes an hour later), or I play the rides before I go home, OR I go home straight. Remember that hill that I descended on the way to work? After a hard day's work, I still gotta ascend it okay? That's the last challenge, by the time I get up there, I'd be sweaty, tired and breathless - just in time for a nice cold shower and a decent half-past-six dinner.

For the first two months, the TV wasn't working, so guess what I did aftr dinner? I plonked to bed.

And before I know it, the alarm on my handphone rings again, and I'm ready for another bout of making burgers.

Back.

On the May 11th goodbye entry, I said I would be back before you know it.

Guess what? I changed my mind!

I am back before I know it. Reality is slapping me hard like a frying pan right now. My summer vacation went by in a flash. I don't want school to start.

Oops it has already started. :x

Time to adjust back to being a student.
